Shaw Names Anita Griffin
Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

(Raleigh, NC) – Shaw University today announced that it
has hired Anita Griffin as Assistant Women’s Basketball
Coach. Most recently, Griffin served as Director of
Intramurals at North Carolina A&T.
"We are very fortunate to have a talented coach in Anita Griffin
joining the Lady Bear program," said Shaw Head Coach Jacques
Curtis. "Young and energetic, Anita brings a tremendous amount of
coaching and recruiting experience with her. We are very lucky to
have her and look forward to her contributions toward the success
of the Shaw women's basketball program."

Prior to taking the reins of the
intramural program at A&T, Griffin served as an assistant
women’s basketball coach at Winston-Salem State. She
also has coaching experience at the high school and AAU level,
including a stint coaching the renowned Peach State (GA) Elite
Girl’s Basketball team.
Griffin played collegiately at both Fort Valley State and Armstrong
Atlantic State, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree. She also played volleyball while at Fort Valley
State.
“It is a thrill to be part of a women’s basketball
program that has been as prominent as Shaw’s,” Griffin
said.
The Lady Bears finished the 2009-2010 season 16-12 overall and
10-10 in the CIAA. They were ousted in the second round of
the CIAA Tournament.
Shaw will open the 2010-2011 campaign on November 27 when they host
Belmont Abbey at 2:00 p.m. All Lady Bear home games are held
in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the Shaw campus.
