SAC’s Sikes wins National Player of the Week Honors
NCCU’s Clement, AAMU’s Tobar, ASU’s Blunt and SAC’s Sikes Win National Player of the Week Honors

Hartly, DE – N.C. Central’s Landon Clement, Alabama A&M’s Whiquitta Tobar, Albany State’s Demarcus Blunt and St. Augustine’s Allison Sikes are the winners of the basketball fan poll. They were nominated for their performances in games played from January 10th thru January 15th , 2011. Each week during the season, HSRN’s staff will select the top performances from all HBCU action and give the fans across the country a chance to vote for the Player of the Week.
HSRN developed the fan poll to get all HBCU alumni, students and fans involved with the national process and to also give everyone a chance to consistently keep up with the individual performances around the country. This web site and our broadcasts are designed to keep you abreast of all action around HBCU athletic competition.
Div. I Men
Landon Clement – N.C. Central – G - 6’2, 180
– JR/Raleigh, NC
Clement averaged 24.5 points per game leading the Eagles to a 2-0
week. In their 67-61 win over MD Eastern Shore, he finish
with 24 points, two steals and five rebounds and in the 77-71 win
over Coppin State he had 25 points, along with two steals and four
rebounds.
Div. I Women
Whiquitta Tobar – Alabama A&M - G – 5’7
– JR/Blytheville, AR
Tobar averaged 24 points per game leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0
week. In their 63-59 win over Arkansas Pine Bluff she had 25
points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals and in the
55-50 win over arch rival Alabama St. she finished with 23 points,
four assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Div. II Men
Demarcus Blunt – Albany St. – F – 6’5
– JR /Cordele, GA
Blunt averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games. He
scored 19-points and pulled down 12-rebound against Paine.
Defensively, he averaged three steals and a steal. Blunt led the
Golden Rams to a 64-63 win against Paine, including the
game-winning basket with six seconds remaining.
Div. II Women
Allison Sikes – St. Augustine’s – G
– 5’10 – SR/Richmond, VA
Sikes had possibly her best week in an illustrious four-year
career, averaging 23.5points, nine rebounds, six steals and three
assists in two games. In addition to getting her first career
triple-double against Virginia Union (24 points, 12 rebounds, 10
steals), Sikes had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and two
steals in a 67-55 win over Bowie State in a battle of CIAA
contenders. It was the Lady Falcons’ first win at Bowie State
since 2000, a span of seven straight losses.
