JCSU Women's Basketball ranked 9th in the NCAA Div II Atlantia Region

JCSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RANKED 9TH IN THE NCAA DII ATLANTIC REGION
First regional rankings

Indianapolis, IN – The Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball team is ranked 9th in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region according to the first NCAA Regional Ranking of the season. JCSU is currently 15-1 overall and in-region after a 68-49 victory over North Greenville University. The Lady Golden Bulls are currently the only team from the CIAA ranked in the region.

The regional rankings are used to determine who will qualify for the NCAA DII Tournament. The top eight teams in the region go to the tournament, with the top-ranked team in the region hosting the first three rounds of the tournament.

In the first regional rankings, West Liberty University (13-3) is ranked first, followed by Millersville, Edinboro is third, Charleston (WV) is fourth and California (PA) rounds out the top five. J.C. Smith has the best overall record of any of the ranked teams in the region, but has a 9th ranking based on schedule strength.

Johnson C. Smith is in the midst of a four-game winning streak and head coach Vanessa Taylor was named CIAA Coach of the Week (week ending January 22nd) for the third time this season.

JCSU returns to the court for road game against divisional foe Fayetteville State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside Capel Arena in Fayetteville, NC. J.C. Smith is 6-0 this season in away games.
