MURFREESBORO – Former Chowan University Women's Basketball
standout Najah Harris has joined Head Coach Patrick Mashuda's staff
as a volunteer assistant for the 2011-2012 season. During her
four years at Chowan (2007-2011), Harris amassed 888 points and 354
rebounds, while playing in 108 games.
In her senior season, Harris led the CIAA in minutes played
(34.0/game) and was second in free throw percentage (77.7%). She
led the Hawks to their first-ever CIAA Tournament game victory that
season, as well as a 15-13 regular season record.
A native of West Orange, NJ, Harris graduated from West Orange High
School before attending Chowan. She graduated from Chowan in 2011
with a degree in psychology. Harris is currently enrolled in the
Sports Leadership graduate program at Virginia Commonwealth
University. For the past eight years, she has worked at the West
Orange Basketball Clinic in her hometown. During the summer of
2011, she also worked at the Sylvia Hatchell Basketball Camp at the
University of North Carolina.
“Najah was a great leader on the floor for us for four years.
We love Najah to death and she's going to bring great things to us
from a leadership standpoint. She will be able to help our young
point guards understand what's going on,” said head coach
Patrick Mashuda. “Anytime you can have a player come back and
be a part of the program says a lot about our program and what we
are trying to accomplish. We are blessed to have her and anytime
you can have a great set of eyes in the program it is only going to
make us better.”
