CIAA Conference Play is Full Swing
CIAA conference play is well underway as each team sets its sights on the 2016 Women's Basketball Championship title.
This season highlights several intriguing story lines to be played out over the course of seven weeks and before the championship tournament. Reigning Champion Virginia State is off to a steady start and has the foundation to sweep the conference once again; however eleven-time champion Shaw University is ready to return to the winner's circle. The Virginia Union women are under the new leadership of first-year head coach Annmarie Gilbert and are ranked No. 20 in USA Today's Division II Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, Lincoln (Pa.) University and Livingstone College are ready to finish what they started in the 2015 season. Who will have what it takes to go all the way?

The Shaw University Lady Bears travel to take on the Virginia Union Panthers on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. EST at Barco-Stevens Hall.
The Shaw University women's basketball team looks to return to the top of the CIAA conference this year after previously achieving nine championship titles in fifteen seasons (2014 CIAA Champions). On a 2-0 streak in conference play (10-4 overall), the Bears will have their work cut out for them as they face-off against the No. 20 Virginia Union team, as ranked by USA Today's Division II Coaches Poll (December 15, 2015). The Panthers hold a 0-1 record in conference play (8-1 overall) after losing their first game in a CIAA overtime battle against Johnson C. Smith University, 77-75.

The Virginia State women are split (1-1) in conference play (5-6 overall) with a 75-48 victory over St. Augustine's University and after falling 65-49 to Johnson C. Smith University.
