RALEIGH, N.C.  – It was an all-around dominant effort for the Shaw University women's basketball team as the Lady Bears downed the Trojans of Virginia State University, 75-48 on Wednesday night in Spaulding Gymnasium for a CIAA contest.  The Lady Bears extended their win-streak to eight-games with the win and own a 29-16 all-time lead against VSU for the series.


Shaw (18-5, 10-1 CIAA) had three players net double digits in scoring, including Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD)  who registered 14 points and eight rebounds, while Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) charted 12 point and 15 rebounds. Tabatha Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) finished with 10 points and five assists for the Lady Bears.


The Lady Bears had no problem getting things going against the Trojans (9-11, 4-6 CIAA). Shaw hauled in a 15-5 lead in the opening quarter.  SU's stifling defense held the Trojans scoreless for over 6:16 as the Lady Bears pounded the ball inside for 16 points in the paint for the first half.


Shaw claimed a 36-16 lead going into the locker after producing a 21-11 run to conclude the second quarter. The Lady Bears scored 13 points off of the Trojans 13 miscues, while scoring 10 points in fast breaks and 10 points off of second opportunities. 


Nine different Lady Bears scored in the first half, including Laquisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) and Ross who both charted seven points apiece.


Similar to the first half, the Lady Bears led by as many as 31 points and would not relent the lead, pulling away with the victory.


Wynterra Pittman scored 14 points and six rebounds, while Nandi Taylor contributed 10 points for VSU.


Shaw will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6th when they play host to Livingstone College for their Coaches vs. Cancer game with a tip scheduled for 2 p.m.
