Lady Bears Overwhelmed in Loss at Nova Southeastern

Fort Lauderdale, FL  Senior forward LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) scored 11 points, but she was the only Shaw University women's basketball player to score in double figures as it was held to 34.5-percent shooting in an 85-59 loss to Nova Southeastern University Tuesday afternoon in the Rick Case Arena. 

The Sharks (6-4) shot 42-percent and hit 10-of-31 3-pointers as they built a 51-28 lead by intermission before Shaw (3-9) was outscored 34-31 in the second half. Alison Hughes paced NSU with 28 points, including 7-of-13 from long distance. Kayla Wright added 17 points and seven rebounds while Amanda Tivenius recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds and Cheray Saunders finished with 1 points and six assists. 

The Lady Bears were outrebounded by the Sharks, 48-37 as NSU held a 19-8 advantage over Shaw in fast break points. Shaw hit just 11.1-percent (1-9) from the 3-point line, the Lady Bears did outscore NSU from the bench with a 31-15 scoring margin. 

Shaw will take a 12-day break for the holidays before returning to action, hosting Barton College in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
