HAMPTON, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has announced the 2006 All-CIAA men’s and women’s tennis teams as well as the CIAA Players and Rookies of the Year as chosen by the CIAA Tennis Coaches Association with Ffion Fletcher and Kabiru Ibrahim of Shaw University being selected as the 2006 CIAA Tennis Players of the Year.

Shaw University and Fayetteville State University swept all but one of the 12 All-Conference women’s selections as the Lady Bears captured six All-CIAA selections, the Lady Broncos captured five All-Conference selections and the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union secured one All-CIAA selection.

The men’s All-Conference selections once again saw Shaw University well represented as the Bears evenly split the 12 All-CIAA selections with the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University, with each institution earning six All-Conference picks.

Fayetteville State University’s Ines Nieves was named the CIAA Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year with Johnson C. Smith University’s George Dixon capturing the same honor for the men.

All the All-CIAA tennis honorees will bid to earn their respective teams a CIAA title this week as they compete in the 2006 CIAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships from the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.  The Championships will be held from Tuesday, April 19, 2006 until Friday, April 21, 2006.
