NCCU only unbeated team at CIAA Volleyball Round-UP

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University swept Shaw University and Elizabeth City State University during the final day of the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up at NCCU in Durham, N.C. to finish the weekend event as the only undefeated team.

NCCU (13-7, 7-0 CIAA) was topped by junior transfer Shari Matthews with 31 kills and 15 digs in Sunday's two victories. Rachel Walters amassed 19 kills and six blocks, Kai Wright added 16 kills and 16 digs, and rookie Rachel Lloyd contributed 13 digs and seven service aces for the Eagles.

NCCU, which did not lose a game in six weekend matches, started the day with a 3-0 win over Shaw (30-11, 30-26, 30-7), then defeated Elizabeth City State 3-0 (30-11, 30-22, 30-14).

Paced by NCCU's 6-0 record and Saint Augustine's 5-1 mark, the CIAA Western Division finished with a 18-12 advantage over the Eastern Division. In the East, Virginia Union posted a 4-1 record, followed by ECSU at 3-2.
