NCCU Volleyball's Matthews leads NCAA in kills

DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University junior outside hitter Shari Matthews is constantly blazing a  path through the NCCU record books. Following a 42-kill performance against Catawba College, Matthews took  the NCAA Division II lead in kills per game (6.33) and total kills (608).

Matthews, a native of Bridgetown, Barbados, now holds NCCU records for kills  in a match (42) and kills in a single season (608). In fact, among all colleges and  universities in NCAA Division I, II and III, Matthews ranks third in kills per game.

Matthews, a three-time Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) player  of the week, also leads NCCU and the NCAA in total service aces (82) and is  second on the team in total digs (344).

Matthews leads the CIAA and ranks fifth in the  NCAA in aces per game (0.85) and hitting percentage (0.411).

The 82 service aces recorded by Matthews rank third in NCCU single-season  history and her 344 digs rank sixth in school single-season history.

NCCU volleyball and Matthews will travel to Raleigh, N.C., on Oct. 8, to face  Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association adversary Saint Augustine's in an important  conference tilt. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
