CIAA Announces 2006 Volleyball All-Conference, Rookie Teams and Players of the Year

Hampton, VA... The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association celebrates the 2006 selections for All-CIAA Volleyball Team, All-CIAA Rookie Team and Players of the Year. 

Shari Matthews of North Carolina Central University, a 5-7, Outside Hitter and Junior Business Administration major from Bridgetown, Barbados is the 2006 CIAA Volleyball Player of the Year. Matthews leads the CIAA, averaging 6 kills per game and leads the conference in the number of service aces with 109. Matthews aided the Lady Eagles to their Western Division Title and an undefeated season against CIAA opponents.    

Elizabeth City State University's, Setter, Ashley Tarasoff has been selected as the 2006 CIAA Rookie of the Year. Tarasoff hails from Castelar, British Columbia, and has amassed 59 service aces and 489 assists to aide her team into a second place finish in the Eastern Division.  

The 2006 All-CIAA Team and All-CIAA Rookie Teams are listed below.  Both teams are selected by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association and will be honored at the Volleyball Championship Luncheon at the Holiday Inn- Bordeaux, Fayetteville, NC on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 12:00 noon.
