California (PA) knocks Chowan out of NCAA Regionals

CALIFORNIA, PA - The Chowan University volleyball team's season
came to an end tonight after falling in straight sets to the #1
seeded Vulcan's from California University-Pennsylvania. The PSAC
Champs overpowered the Hawks 25-15, 25-15, and 25-6. The Hawks
earned their way to the tournament with a CIAA Championship win
nearly two weeks ago, marking the school's first-ever NCAA
postseason bid as a DII institution. The Hawks will make the trip
home tomorrow, focused on preparations for next season, and to
celebrate in their 2009 season successes.
The Vulcans out hit the Hawks 39 to 16 in the match. CIAA Rookie of
the Year, Karina Monroe was held to just five kills in the match
while Antionette McCollough and Victoria Lewis each had four kills.
Willis added six digs while CIAA All-Conference setter Callie
Armistead had 15 assists.
For Cal-P, Joanna Mist tallied 12 kills while Ludmila Amaral had 10
kills and six blocks. Chowan ends the season at 29-9 overall while
the Vulcans improve to 34-5. They will move on to play #3 Wheeling
Jesuit tomorrow night at 7:30pm. WJU beat Gannon to stay alive in
their tournament. #2 Lock Haven and #6 Edinboro will meet tomorrow
at 5:30pm after claiming victories earlier today.
