Saint Augustine’s College will make its fifth appearance in
the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Tournament when the
Lady Falcons take on California, Pa. Thursday (Nov. 17) in a
first-round match at a time to be announced.
The Lady Falcons qualified for the NCAA Tournament by winning the
CIAA Tournament over Chowan 3-2 on Nov. 6. The NCAA Tournament
bracket was officially announced late Sunday night (Nov. 13) on the
Internet at ncaa.com.
“It was an honor to hear Saint Augustine’s
College’s name being called,” said Nikki Bynum, who
becomes the third head coach in school history to lead the Lady
Falcons to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. “I sent the girls
a text which said, “Welcome to the NCAA where all things are
possible.””
The Lady Falcons (17-17 overall) are seeded eighth while
California, Pa. (31-4), the PSAC champion, is the top seed in the
Atlantic Region. The site of the Atlantic Region is California,
Pa.
The Lady Falcons also advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1981,
2001, 2002, and 2003. A victory over California, Pa., would be the
second-ever tournament win for the volleyball program.
