St. Aug Downs ECSU In CIAA Volleyball Tournament

HAMPTON, Va. – Saint Augustine's College opened the 2011 CIAA Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Elizabeth City State University on Friday morning (Nov. 4) at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

The Lady Falcons continue pool play Friday against Fayetteville State University at 3 p.m., and Virginia State University at 5 p.m. They need to finish among the top two teams in their pool to advance to Saturday's semifinals.

St. Aug was led by the All-CIAA duo of Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan, Canada) and Keisha Parris (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica). Tokarski collected 12 kills and Parris added 10 kills for the Lady Falcons, who won 25-23, 25-17, 25-10. Both players tied Brittany Hicks (Jr./Louisburg, N.C.) for most digs with 10 apiece.

All-CIAA player Roxanne Smith (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) had 27 assists and Victoria Davis (Soph./San Diego, Calif.) finished with five blocks. For Elizabeth City State, All-CIAA players Whitney Green and Kyla Shute led the way with eight and seven kills, respectively.

The Lady Falcons upped their overall record to 14-16. They entered the tournament as the Southern Division No. 3 seed. The Lady Vikings, the Northern Division No. 2 seed, fell to 16-12.
