Chowan Defeats Livingstone to Open 2011 Volleyball Tournament

HAMPTON, VA – The Chowan University Volleyball team cruised past Livingstone College in their opening game of the 2011 Volleyball Tournament on Friday.  Chowan won by scores of 25-10, 25-14, 25-15. 
 
2011 CIAA Player of the Year Tori Lewis led the Hawks with 17 kills.  She also had 14 digs and a block.  Karina Monroe, the 2010 CIAA Player of the Year, tallied 11 kills and hit .529.  Tara Thomalla recorded a team-high 24 digs.
 
Callie Armistead had 20 assists while Allison Smith chipped in with 13.  Livingstone totaled just 11 kills for the match and hit -.020.
 
Chowan (24-6) will face Virginia Union at 3:00pm today in the second match-up in pool play.
