Saint Augustine’s College was selected the host institution for the 2010 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Atlantic Region Cross Country Meet, which will be held Nov. 20 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The announcement was made Thursday by the NCAA.

“It is always a pleasure when the city of Raleigh, the town of Cary and Saint Augustine’s College cooperate together to bring an exciting event to our area,” Saint Augustine’s College athletic director George Williams said. “We hope to continue our relationship in order to host future national events in cross country and track and field.”

Williams was instrumental in Saint Augustine’s College hosting the 2003 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Cary, N.C., becoming the first historically black college to do so. Saint Augustine’s College also hosted the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1994 and 2000 in Raleigh, N.C.

WakeMed Soccer Park is a major soccer complex which also has a nationally-recognized cross country track. Home of the Carolina RailHawks soccer team, WakeMed Soccer Park hosts soccer and cross country events including the CIAA cross country championships, which includes both Saint Augustine’s College men’s and women’s teams.
