CIAA Selects 2011 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coaches of the Year
November 18, 2011
Hampton, VA—The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Executive Committee, in conjunction with the CIAA Cross Country Coaches Association, has named Inez Turner of Winston-Salem State University and William Montague of Shaw University as the 2011 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coaches of the Year, respectively.
Turner, in her second year as Head Coach of the Lady Rams, celebrates back-to-back Women’s Cross Country Championships (2010, 2011), and also claims honors as top coach for the second straight season. Turner’s efforts this season led to an appearance by both her men’s and women’s squads in the NCAA D-II Cross Country Regional competition in Slippery Rock, PA.
William Montague, at the helm of the Shaw University Bears’ squad, finished the regular season with a 2011 CIAA Championship win; rising from a third place finish in 2010. The Bears also made a post-season appearance in the NCAA D-II Cross Country Regionals.
Both Turner and Montague will be formally recognized at the annual CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon in May.
